The City of Belleville’s Green Task Force celebrated local environmental leadership on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre during its inaugural Environmental Stewardship Awards ceremony.
The awards recognize individuals, organizations and businesses whose efforts are helping to protect, preserve and enhance Belleville’s natural environment through education, conservation, sustainability initiatives and community leadership.
“When our Green Task Force began these awards, the idea was really quite simple: we wanted to shine a light on the people who are not just talking about creating a greener and more sustainable community, they are actually doing it,” said Councillor Barb Enright-Miller, chair of the Green Task Force.
Award recipients were recognized for contributions ranging from habitat restoration and wildlife conservation to environmental education, waste reduction, native plant initiatives and community engagement.
“A greener Belleville will not be created by one single project or one grand gesture. It will be created by thousands of choices, made by people who care enough to do something. Today, we celebrate some of those people,” added Enright-Miller.
