Belleville’s Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar and the Ontario Sikhs and Gurudwara Council have released a joint statement in the wake of Sunday night’s shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue.

Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar, Belleville (GGND), the Ontario Sikhs and Gurudwara Council (OSGC), and members of the Sikh community unequivocally condemn the horrific act of violence that took place outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, during Yom Kippur. Places of worship are sacred spaces meant for peace, reflection, and community. No Canadian should ever feel fear, intimidation, or the threat of violence while gathering to pray. We stand in absolute solidarity with the congregation of the Sons of Jacob Synagogue and the entire Jewish community across Canada. We express our deep gratitude and respect for the Belleville police officer who put their life on the line to prevent an even greater tragedy. Our thoughts are with the injured officer, their family, and their colleagues as we wish them a full and swift recovery. May those affected find safety, healing, and peace.
