Loyalist Lancers Weekend Recap

 The Loyalist Lancers cross-country team opened its season at the Seneca Invitational, travelling to Seneca’s King Campus for its first competition of the year.

On the men’s side, second year Lancer Michael Griepsma led the way for the team, completing the 8K course in 30:54.7 to finish 12th overall. Griepsma averaged an impressive 3:52 per kilometre in a strong start to the season.

First year team member, Jaxen Fluke was the next Lancer across the line, placing 29th overall with a time of 33:03.1 and a pace of 4:08/km.

Rounding out the Loyalist men’s results were two more first-year runners, Ian Quilty, who finished 48th in 37:29.9, and Christopher Menard, who crossed the line in 59th with a time of 42:40.4.

In the women’s 6K race, August Down represented the Lancers and finished 33rd overall, completing the course in 36:53.2.

With their first race now under their belts, the Lancers will look to build on their opening performances as they continue through the OCAA cross-country season.

The women’s rugby 7s program kicked off their season in a big way this weekend. The Lancers went a perfect 3-0 on home turf Saturday, defeating Fleming 34-0, St. Lawrence 15-14 and four-time defending OCAA champion Durham 12-5. A huge opening statement from Lancers Women’s Rugby 7s team!

Volleyball:

The women’s and men’s volleyball teams began their exhibition schedule with a two-day tournament in Kingston hosted by the SLC Surge.

The women’s team went 2-2 with wins over Boreal and Centennial. The men completed a perfect 4-0 weekend with victories over SLC, Centennial, Boreal and George Brown.

The men’s volleyball team is back in action for additional exhibition play, this time on home court, on Saturday, September 26.

Basketball:

The Lancer basketball team open their exhibition run this Thursday, September 24 when they host the Sheridan Bruins.  The women’s game is at 4 pm. and the men’s at 6 p.m..

The women’s soccer team looks to secure their first win of the season in their back-to-back battles this weekend against Cambrian Shield in Sudbury on Saturday and Lakehead Orillia on Sunday.
