Prince Edward County is preparing to hand over the Wellington Town Hall to the newly formed Wellington Town Hall Stewardship Association, to maintain the facility moving forward.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, council discussed a staff report about progress made by the association to prepare for taking on the responsibility of managing the historic property.
In January, the municipality and the association signed a memorandum of understanding, where the association would demonstrate that it is able to properly take care of the property, by developing governance, financial, operational, and community stewardship frameworks. Municipal staff have reviewed documents provided by the association and reported to council that all the conditions laid out have been satisfied.
With the previous conditions complete, a motion to prepare to transfer the town hall property to the association was put before council. The motion would direct municipal staff to complete any preparations needed for the land transfer, including public notice, and any required signed agreements needed.
That motion was approved without debate.
