Northumberland OPP have arrested and charged a man after a stolen debit card was used to make fraudulent purchases.
On July 27, 2026, police received a report that a vehicle had been entered by an unknown subject(s) on County Road 30 in the Municipality of Trent Hills two days earlier. The complainant reported that a debit card had been stolen and subsequently used to make a number of fraudulent purchases at businesses in Havelock.
As a result of the investigation, officers identified and arrested one individual on August 20.
Steven Lafonte, a 66-year-old from Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, has been charged with three counts of possession of credit card data and three counts of fraud under $5,000.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in November.
