The chair of Grain Farmers of Ontario says more economic pain can be expected in the agricultural sector following Friday’s collapse of trade talks between the U.S. and Canada and subsequent American tariffs and planned Canadian counter-tariffs.
Quinte West farmer Jeff Harrison says most agricultural machinery is made by American companies like John Deere.
Counter tariffs will likely dramatically increase prices for that machinery and food prices are expected to go up as well.
Harrison tells Quinte News that no one wins a trade war and both sides will pay a price for what he calls “nonsense.”
