On Wednesday, 65 children from the Township of Hamilton Summer Camp visited the Northumberland detachment of the OPP.
The children were hosted for summer camp youth day, a day of hands-on learning and community engagement with local emergency services members.
Youth participated in a Touch-a-Truck experience, explored police vehicles and equipment, toured the detachment, and put their investigative skills to the test during a mock investigation.
“Building relationships with our community partners is paramount to providing public safety,” said Staff Sergeant Paul McDonald of the Northumberland OPP. “Our children are our future, and building healthy relationships built on trust and respect is important to our community engagement while supporting our local action plan. Thank you to all our partners that came together to provide these children a day full of fun activities.”
Members of Correctional Service of Canada also attended, bringing a prisoner transport vehicle for the Touch-a-Truck. Firefighters from the Hamilton Fire Department were also present, and served a barbecue lunch for the children.
