The Ontario Provincial Police East Region Street Crime Unit with assistance from Central Region Tactical and Rescue Unit and East Region Emergency Response Team conducted a search warrant on a property in Bancroft.
Officers began investigating a recent increase in break-ins and thefts over the past several months. As a result of the investigation, officers identified a person of interest and obtained a search warrant in connection with the investigation.
On August 12, 2026, a search warrant was executed at a property in Carlow-Mayo Township. Officers located a large amount of stolen property including several vehicles, dirtbikes, utility trailers, firearms, ammunition, and power tools. The estimated total of recovered items is more than $200,000.
Starr McAlpine, age 27 of Carlow-Mayo Township has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 – twelve counts
- Possession of stolen property – eight counts
- Possession of a schedule I substance – two counts
- Break and enter
- Failure to comply with an undertaking – twenty-four counts
- Careless storage of firearm – three counts
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm – three counts
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm – twelve counts
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm – twelve counts
- Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo – three counts
- Possession of firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime knowing its possession is unauthorized
- Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
