How Quinte West issues public notices is changing.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, Quinte West approved an update to the notice policy governing how the municipality issues notices to the public. The policy covers notices for council meetings, public meetings, land use decisions, road closures, annual budgets, and more.
Previously, notices were published in local newspapers. With the closure of the two local newspapers, The Trentonian and The Community Press, by parent company Postmedia in June the municipality is moving to providing these notices through their website. A report to council notes that in the absence of a local newspaper, online notices have been found to be acceptable by provincial law.
Council and municipal staff recognize that not all residents use the internet to regularly check for these notices and physical copies of important notices, such as legislative or statutory notices, will be posted at City Hall and the Frankford Municipal Hall when needed.
The motion passed without debate.
