A new milestone has been achieved in Canada’s strategic air tanker program, as one of the new CC-330 Husky planes has completed it’s first flight after being modified to work as a tanker aircraft.
The test flight for the new tanker took place in Spain, as part of efforts to assess the plane’s design, performance, and safety.
When complete, the CC-330 Husky planes will be stationed at CFB Trenton, with work already underway on facilities to accommodate them. A total of $850 million has been invested to build new hangars, an upgraded apron and runway, taxiways, and other supporting infrastructure.
Canada has already acquired two of the planned nine aircraft. The program will see the 9 planes converted into a multi-role tanker and transport aircraft, offering the flexibility to perform a wide range of missions from transport to mid-air refueling of other planes.
