Belleville police laid impaired driving charges following a fail-to-remain collision involving a pedestrian on Saturday night.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries after being struck while crossing the intersection in the area of Pinnacle Street and Victoria Avenue around 11:40 p.m.
Police say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
Officers located the suspect vehicle less than an hour later in the city’s north end along with the male suspect.
As a result of the investigation, Stephen Gallant, a 54-year-old Belleville man, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg
· Operation causing bodily harm
· Fail to stop at accident resulting in bodily harm
He was released on an undertaking with a court date in October.
