The Eastern Ontario PC MPP caucus released a joint statement regarding the Alto High Speed Rail Project on Wednesday.
The caucus, which includes local MPPs Tyler Allsopp of Bay of Quinte, Ric Bresee of Hastings—Lennox and Addington, and David Piccini of Northumberland—Peterborough South, says the federal government is ignoring the voices of farmers, landowners and municipalities.
“Public confidence in major infrastructure projects depends on meaningful consultation,” the statement reads.
“In the case of ALTO, too many questions remain unanswered. Too many voices have been ignored.”
The statement goes on to say that local voices “deserve to see their feedback reflected in the project’s planning, route selection, and delivery.”
This comes after sources told the Canadian Press that the province is reconsidering its support for Alto.
The sources were granted by the news organizations anonymity because they were not authorized to share internal discussions.
They say Ford agreed to support the rail project Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to build in exchange for federal support to expand Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to allow jets to land and take off.
