The owners of a short-term rental got a surprise on Sunday when they checked in on the property.
Belleville police were called to a property on Moira Street East after a cleaner found an unexpected man inside the house. The man told the cleaner that he had just purchased the property.
Officers arrived and met with the legitimate owner. Following an investigation, the 30-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with break and enter.
During his arrest, the man provided police with several different names and aliases. With the assistance of the Canada Border Services Agency, officers were able to confirm his identity. The suspect was further charged with obstructing a peace officer.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing on Monday.
