Madoc’s Deputy Mayor, Larry Rollins, has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately.
In a prepared statement, Rollins said he was honoured to serve his community.
“This decision has not been made lightly,” said Rollins. “I have acted honestly, in good faith, and in the best interest of my community. It has been my privilege to serve.
Rollins had been elected to the role of deputy mayor in the last municipal election, however, it was discovered that he had not filed his 2022 election report as required under the municipal act.
While council deferred a decision to remove him from the position, pending a review, Rollins decided to resign over concerns that the ongoing legal questions would have a negative impact on the community.
While he has resigned as deputy mayor, Rollins has not given up his plans to run for mayor in this year’s election.
