Unforeseen and serious problems have added considerable cost to the Wellington Trunk Main and Sanitary Pumping Station projects.
Tuesday at its regular meeting Prince Edward Council will see a staff report asking for an additional $2.5 million to complete the work, bringing the projected cost of the projects to over $31.1 million.
Problems encountered by the two companies doing the work, Strong Bros. and Clearway Construction, include different rock formations than what the geological studies found, parts of steel rail, and higher than projected groundwater infiltration during underground work.
The issues have driven the cost up and increased the time necessary to complete the work. In an effort to save money and make the work more efficient, staff are also recommending the rest of the work be done solely by Strong Bros.
