Planned residential construction in Quinte West was way down last month compared to May of last year however commercial construction was much higher.
Staikos Construction Ltd. took out two building permits for 2 commercial buildings to be placed on the south side of Old Highway 2 just east of Second Dug Hill Road.
The construction value of the two buildings is almost $16 million. One of the buildings will hold a national grocery outlet and the other
will be available for retail outlets. One section has already been leased to a national retail operation.
An announcement on the identity of the grocery chain is expected soon.
Including residential and other building projects the total value of planned building
in May was $25.2 million.
In May of 2025 there was a lot of residential building, mostly in the form of apartments in Quinte West, and permits were issued with a value of over $59 million.
