Prince Edward County OPP, along with members of the OPP traffic incident management team, marine unit and park wardens held a series of enforcement initiatives at Sandbanks Provincial Park during the annual “Skip Weekend.”
Through multiple RIDE programs and proactive patrols, approximately 900 vehicles were checked, resulting in numerous enforcement actions.
As a result of the checks, multiple seven-day driver’s licence suspensions were issued for alcohol-related offenses, including warn-range readings and novice drivers registering blood alcohol concentrations above zero. Two individuals were arrested for impaired driving. Both were later released, and licence suspensions were imposed. Officers also seized a significant amount of liquor from people under 19. In several instances, the liquor was found inside vehicles while they were being operated, leading to additional charges.
Police also responded to several incidents during the enforcement period, including a youth requiring medical attention after consuming alcohol and cannabis, a stolen vehicle investigation that resulted in an arrest, and multiple traffic-related occurrences that led to additional charges and warnings.
The OPP remind all motorists that enforcement efforts will continue, and there is zero tolerance for impaired or unsafe driving.
