Durham Regional Police are searching for a male and female suspect after they stole jewellery from an older female in Whitby.
On May 27, 2026, members of Central West Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Whitefish Street and Des Newman Boulevard.
At approximately 6:35 p.m., the 63-year-old female victim was on the sidewalk outside of her residence when a grey/silver four-door SUV pulled up alongside her. A male and female suspect spoke in ‘broken Hindi’ to call the victim over to their vehicle. The female suspect in the passenger seat grabbed the victim’s arm to place rings on her fingers, and removed a necklace the victim was wearing, while the male suspect distracted her. The suspects then threw fake jewellery at the victim before fleeing the area in their vehicle.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
The first suspect is described as male, approximately 40-45 years old, with a light moustache. He spoke ‘broken Hindi.’
The second suspect is described as female, approximately 40-45 years old, with a black hijab. She spoke ‘broken Hindi.’
The suspect vehicle is described as a grey/silver four-door SUV with tinted windows.
