Activists say Belleville resident Shahid Mahmood is among the 11 Canadians detained when Israel’s navy intercepted 41 boats in international waters near Cyprus on Monday.
Global Sumud Canada says in a social media post that they do not know where Shahid Mahmood is being taken or their whereabouts.
Mahmood is the co-founder of Belleville For Justice and Peace, a social justice group that has been calling for a ceasefire on the war in Gaza.
On Wednesday, Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand says she’s directed her officials to summon Israeli Ambassador Iddo Moed after the “mistreatment of civilians” aboard the Gaza-bound flotilla.
One video showed the minister walking among activists who were kneeling with their hands tied behind their backs, and another featured Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir Ben-Gvir saying they should be imprisoned for a long time.
Anand also noted she had not received a response to the summons from the Israeli embassy.
