The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board recognized the outstanding contributions of volunteers at its meeting on Tuesday, including those of a retired teacher at Murray Centennial Public School.
In honour of National Volunteer Week, trustees recognized school volunteers with Accolade Awards.
The recipients were among a host of individuals nominated by schools throughout KPR for the time, effort and dedication they share on behalf of students.
“We are fortunate to benefit from the time and expertise of over 2,000 volunteers in KPR schools, supporting areas such as extra-curricular activities, student nutrition programs, school and classroom activities, and school councils,” says Rita Russo, Director of Education. “We are incredibly grateful for everything volunteers do to enhance the educational experiences in schools and inspire students to excel in learning, succeed in life, and enrich communities.”
Cathy Armstrong is a retired teacher with KPR who spent her career working at Murray Centennial Public School.
She now volunteers weekly in kindergarten classes and accompanies the classes on field trips.
She is known as a kind, caring, and intellectual individual who enjoys helping young learners in the classroom.
She happily helps students with their literacy skills, crafts, and more, and is deeply appreciated by school staff.
