Local Members of Provincial Parliament have announced millions of dollars to connect local residents to doctors and/or health care teams.
RIC BRESEE ANNOUNCEMENT
The Ontario government is investing more than $2.1 million to expand primary care services across Tyendinaga and Bancroft.
This funding will support the Tsi Kanonhkhwatsheríyo Indigenous health team in connecting over 2,000 more residents to doctors and traditional healers.
Bresee explains how the money is utilized by the health care teams/physicians.
“Whether it’s the primary healthcare team, or the interprofessional team, or the clinic, for them to manage based on a program and some deliverables that they’ve put into their application. So they built a project, they’ve built an expansion plan, that covers the direct healthcare professionals’ cost, but it also covers the cost for the facilities and the IT and administration and all of that.”
As part of the expansion, a new clinic is set to open in Deseronto, alongside new mobile health units serving rural areas in North Lennox and Addington.
TYLER ALLSOPP ANNOUNCEMENT
The Ontario government is investing more than $2.6 million to connect nearly 6,000 more residents in Hastings and Prince Edward counties to primary care.
This funding allows the local Ontario Health Team to expand its reach by adding more nurses and allied health professionals to existing community clinics and family health teams.
Allsopp says it is important for people to get on Health Care Connect.
“Because that is the primary place where people are getting referrals, is off that Health Care Connect list. With these announcements as they’ve been rolling out, we’re seeing a lot of people coming off those lists, and so if you are looking for primary care out there, please sign up for Health Care Connect.”
Residents looking for a provider are still encouraged to register through the Health Care Connect website or by calling 811.
The move is part of $3.4 billion to ensure every Ontarian is connected to a primary care provider by 2029.
