Peterborough OPP have made multiple arrests involving impaired driving since the start of April.
The first incident was on April 1. 2026 at approximately 7 p.m., when an officer from the Peterborough County OPP detachment was dispatched to a collision on Dummer-Asphodel Road in Douro-Dummer Township. The caller stated that an individual crashed their vehicle and was then picked up in a different vehicle.
Officers were able to identify the driver and attended a residence in Norwood to speak with them. While speaking with the driver, officers determined them to be impaired and they were arrested. The individual was taken to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further tests but failed to provide the required samples. While at the detachment, the accused activated an alarm system which led to a further charge.
Raymond Bradley, a 39-year-old from Norwood, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired, failure or refusal to comply with demand, mischief, and fail to remain.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in June. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle impounded for seven days.
Another incident occurred on Saturday, shortly after 1:30 a.m. A Peterborough County OPP officer was travelling east on Highway 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township, when the officer noticed a vehicle moving faster than the posted limit. The officer followed the vehicle as it displayed movements that would be similar to that of an impaired driver.
The officer initiated a traffic stop by activating their emergency lights, and as the vehicle pulled over, the officer saw a beverage container being thrown from the vehicle. The officer approached the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be impaired. The driver was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.
Thomas Brown, a 43-year-old from Norwood, was arrested and charged with operation while impaired, blood alcohol over 80, speeding, driving with liquor readily available, possessing more than one licence, and littering.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in May. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
A third incident happened on Sunday, shortly after 2 a.m. An officer was travelling on Highway 7 west towards Peterborough. As the officer approached an intersection, they saw a vehicle facing the wrong direction, and began a traffic stop.
While talking to the driver, the officer determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The officer made a demand for the driver to provide a sample of their breath into a screening device. The driver failed to provide a sample of their breath and as a result was arrested.
Jenny Chen, a 35-year-old from Scarborough, was arrested and charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough in June. Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
