A delegation from the City of Belleville is in attendance for the ROMA Conference.
The conference began on Sunday in Toronto.
Councillor Sean Kelly is among those representing the City of Belleville.
He spoke about what he is personally looking forward to in his time at the conference.
“I’m really looking forward to the working seminar with long-term care. I chair the Hastings County Long-Term Care Committee, and there’s 50,000 folks in need of a long-term care bed, if you will,” Kelly tells Quinte News.
“You’ll hear about funding announcements for municipalities to go after bucks from upper level government and it’s education. The entire weekend is education, listening and learning, and having conversations.”
Kelly says it’s a chance to speak with MPPs and other municipal leaders to discuss a number of issues affecting municipalities across the province.
“Just (last) week, we found out that there’s 85,000 people experiencing homelessness in Ontario, and we have a chance to bend the year, if you will,” Kelly said.
“There needs to be more provincial funding support for municipalities across the province, and all the political heavyweights… when they hear it from close to 2000 delegates from municipalities, surely that’s going to make an impact.”
ROMA continues until Tuesday.
