It’s been a messy day on the roads, especially Highway 401.
There is major backup of traffic in the eastbound lanes due to two collisions involving multiple vehicles between Lansdowne and Mallorytown.
Potentially serious injuries have been reported.
Frontenac, Leeds and Grenville OPP, along with emergency services are on scene assisting those involved.
Motorists stuck in the backlog are asked to remain in their vehicles and follow directions on scene.
Once the collisions are addressed, officers will work to clear the remaining traffic.
The closure is expected to be lengthy.
A closure in the westbound lanes in the Odessa area has been cleared.
There was a collision involving a transport truck and a passenger vehicle around County Road 6.
No injuries have been reported.
The Westbound 401 between Cobourg and Port Hope was also closed for a time following multiple collisions including a jack-knifed tractor-trailer east of County Road 28 in Port Hope late this morning but has also reopened.
OPP are asking the public to avoid unnecessary travel.
If you are travelling, drive carefully and expect delays as road conditions are poor.
