With 2025 behind us and 2026 soon to be upon us, Quinte News spoke with Hastings County Warden Bob Mullin about what’s coming in the new year.
He said the county is working on expanding their planning department.
“They will provide services across the board to all 14 municipalities, and that’s important because of the number of changes coming down from the province, it’s just impossible to keep up at a municipal level,” said Warden Mullin.
He also said that improvements to the county’s IT infrastructure are in the works.
Those projects will be reliant on provincial funding.
“I think at the county level, we’re so dependent on funding from the province that until those grants get finalized and approved, it’s really difficult to do anything more than status quo. Sometimes even that’s difficult,” said Warden Mullin.
The planning and IT improvements are long-term projects, and are expected to take two to three years to complete.
