The Township of Stirling-Rawdon is declaring a Significant Weather Event due to the freezing rain expected to hit on Sunday afternoon.
The freezing rain is expected to last into the evening and possibly into Monday morning.
Residents are warned that roads and walkways may become icy and slippery. Prolonged utility outages are possible. Significant damage to property, including some buildings and trees, is possible due to the weight of ice.
The declaration comes after Environment Canada issued multiple yellow alerts related to rain, freezing rain, and high winds in the region.
