Quinte West is preparing to move forward with a feasibility study regarding a new sports dome in the community.
During Wednesday’s council meeting, councillors discussed a report from the director of community services regarding the potential to build a sports dome to provide additional recreation in the area.
A sports dome consists of either an inflatable or framed structure placed over a sports field in order to shelter the play area and potentially spectators from weather, allowing the field to be used after seasonal weather would block the use of other outdoor spaces. The dome could provide shelter for large fields such as soccer or football, or smaller courts such as tennis or pickleball.
Council briefly discussed the proposal for a study on whether or not such a structure would work for the community, noting that the costs of that study were already accounted for in the 2026 budget.
After brief debate, council voted to proceed with the study.
