The John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic held earlier this month at Oak Hills Golf Club raised more than $100,000 for the the Emergency Department Expansion and Equipment at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
More than 220 golfers participated in the September 20 event which was rescheduled from its original August 9 date due to weather.
In all, $106,348.25 was raised for the TMH ER Expansion.
A highlight of the event was a hole-in-one victory on Glen 8, sponsored by Lisa Thompson RBC Wealth Management, where Steve O’Connell won $10,000.
Lindsay Butcher Dodds, Interim Executive Director of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation (TMHF), expressed her gratitude: “We are so thankful for the ongoing support from the community and our sponsors. The funds raised will go a long way toward providing essential equipment for our ER expansion, which benefits everyone in the community.”
The event serves as a heartfelt tribute to John Smylie, celebrating his legacy of community service.
Jess and Ian Smylie, John’s family, added, “We were thrilled to be part of the tournament as a title sponsor. We were absolutely floored by the results. We really want to thank all the amazing volunteers, members of the board, and the foundation staff. It is surprising how much Quinte West citizens are willing to do for the community. We are so happy to be a part of this.”
The next John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic is already scheduled for August 8, 2025.
Christina Charbonneau will remain event chair for another year.
