There was a house fire Tuesday morning in Belleville.
Firefighters were called to an older two-storey wood frame house on Bleecker Avenue at Station Street shortly after 8 o’clock.
The home’s occupants escaped safely but at least two pets died in the fire.
Response by firefighters was quick as the incident was just metres away from the department’s headquarters and flames were knocked down soon after arrival.
There was significant damage to the interior of the house.
An investigation continues.
