Members of the Prince Edward County OPP investigated a series of impaired-related offences over the weekend.
On April 26, 2024 around 8 p.m., OPP received a report of a vehicle in the ditch near Fish Lake Road. Officers were updated that the vehicle got out of the ditch and continued driving. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. Ashton Maracle, age 31 from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Around 2 a.m. on April 27, 2024, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when a vehicle entered the program. An approved screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. Hendrik Schoeman, age 52 from Whitby, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Just after midnight on April 28, 2024, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when a vehicle entered the program. An approved screening device was administered and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing. Tyler Brown, age 39 from Belleville, was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for seven. They were released from custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
On April 27, 2024 shortly before 10 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62. Officers spoke with the driver and as a result, an approved screening device was administered. The driver registered a warn and had their licence suspended for three days. The vehicle was removed by a licenced driver.
Impaired driving can have tragic consequences so plan ahead for a safe ride home.
