There was an emotional moment at Monday’s meeting of Belleville City Council in memory of longtime politician Daryl Kramp.
Mayor Neil Ellis presented Kramp’s wife Carol Ann and daughter Kari with the flag that was flown at half mast atop City Hall following Kramp’s passing on February 8 at the age of 76.
Kramp, a Madoc native, was a long-time Member of Parliament, serving Belleville and area.
Ellis called him a mentor and commended Kramp’s commitment to the community during his previous term as mayor.
“He made such an impression on infrastructure, on governance and on everything Daryl touched. Some of the projects that we worked together, that have changed the City of Belleville, were such things as the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge, a bridge that was built and Daryl championed it very hard to get the funding for that.”
Ellis also reflected on Kramp’s help to get funding for the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre but said what he will remember most is his kindness and his smile.
Kari Kramp thanked council saying the gesture means a lot to the family and that her father considered it a privilege to work with the City of Belleville over the years.
Kramp was also a municipal councillor, Deputy Reeve, and a Member of Provincial Parliament.
