Belleville police responded to 73 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on December 12, 2023 to 5 a.m. on December 13, 2023.
Traffic stop leads to charges
On December 12, 2023 at 4:15 a.m., Belleville police stopped a vehicle on Cannifton Road near Adam Street for a traffic violation. While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, officers believed he was under the influence of alcohol. Officers also observed open alcohol in the vehicle. The driver provided a breath sample and failed. The driver was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service where it was determined that he was driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit. Police also determined that there was no insurance on the vehicle. As a result, 26-year-old, Colten Collins of Frankford was charged with operating a vehicle with 80mg plus of alcohol and was released on an undertaking. Additionally, Collins was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and driving with an open container of liquor. Collins has a court date in January 2024.
Fail to comply with Release Order
On December 12, 2023 at 9 p.m., Belleville police located a suspicious vehicle in the city’s north end. Police spoke to the male and female occupants in the vehicle. Police confirmed that the male was currently on a release order as a result of an intimate partner assault with one of his conditions being not to communicate with the female victim who was located in the vehicle. As a result, the 19-year-old male was arrested for failing to comply with his release order and was held for a bail hearing.
RIDE Program
On December 12, 2023 in the evening hours, Belleville police conducted a RIDE Program at various locations throughout the city. Police checked 280 vehicles. One roadside test was administered. There were no charges as a result of the RIDE Program.
