As Quinte West council gets set to host a third day of budget deliberations today it will be hearing some good news.
Bay of Quinte riding MPP Todd Smith has announced a one-time grant to Quinte West of just over $3 million.
Smith says the money will make up for funding lost after changes made to the federal Payment In Lieu of Taxes program which led to less money coming to the city for hosting 8 Wing Trenton.
Over the years the PILT program had paid Quinte West as much as $4 million a year. The provincial grant will be delivered to the city before the
end of this month making it available for the 2024 budget .
Council will hear from more community organizations asking for financial support as budget discussions begin again at 9 o’clock Monday morning.
The first draft of the budget shows a residential tax increase of 9.26 per cent.
