Belleville police responded to 209 calls for service from 5 a.m. on December 8, 2023 to 5 a.m. on December 11, 2023.
RIDE Program
During the evening hours on December8, the Belleville Police Service conducted a RIDE program at numerous locations throughout the city which resulted in 180 vehicles being checked. One male was charged with driving while over 80mgs and one Provincial Offence Notice was issued for a Highway Traffic Act infraction.
Impaired Driving
On December 8at 7:45 p.m., police were conducting a RIDE program in the north end of the city where they began an investigation into a male driver with the odor of alcoholic beverages on his breath. Officers requested that he provide a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device where he registered a fail. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service for further investigation. As a result of the investigation, 38-year-old, Anthony Stephen of Belleville was charged with driving with over 80mgs and released on an undertaking with a court date in January 2024.
Breach of Undertaking and Possession of Drugs
On December 9 at 5:16 p.m., Belleville police received a call from another police agency regarding a male who may be in Belleville and breaching conditions of his undertaking. Police attended an address in the city’s west end and located the male. Police confirmed that the male was not to be at the address and was not to be in contact with the female inside the residence. The male was arrested. While searching the male, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. As a result, a 44-year-old male of no fixed address was charged with breaching his undertaking, and possession of a controlled substance. He was held for a bail hearing.
