The Wellington Dukes slipped past the Cobourg Cougars 3-2 in overtime during Friday’s game at the Duke Dome.
Cory Jewitt, Connor Hunt, and William Mitchell scored for the Dukes.
Neither team could make any headway in the scoreless first period, and entered the second with a clean slate before the Dukes grabbed the first goal just over a minute into the frame. The Cougars quickly grabbed one of their own, and the stalemate resumed for the rest of the period.
The third period saw the Cougars pull ahead with an early goal and try to hold that slim lead for the rest of the period. A late goal by the Dukes evened the score and forced the game into overtime where the Dukes grabbed the tie-breaking goal after three minutes.
The Dukes have a day off before travelling to face the Royals in Markham on Sunday.
