A portion of central Belleville will be lit up with lanterns Thursday night (Oct. 19) for the first ever Royal LePage Shelter Foundation Night Light walk.
Three Oaks Foundation Community Services manager Amy Dufresne says some residents and businesses will light up their properties as several teams and individuals walk the three-kilometre route.
“The light is kind of seen as hope in terms of domestic violence with the goal of raising funds for Royal LePage Shelter Foundation and all of the funds that are raised locally come directly to Three Oaks.”
Three Oaks Foundation runs shelters and offers programs for battered women and their families.
Dufresne says the importance of having sponsors like Royal LePage cannot be overstated.
“We’re very lucky Royal LePage locally is very, very good to us. Not only do they donate to us through initiatives through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation but we also have individual real estate agents who donate commissions to us on a monthly basis, a portion of their commissions. We also have individuals through Royal LePage who’ve done trekking for us several years in a row now, they do additional fundraisers so we’re very, very fortunate with the Royal LePage that we have in our area.”
Participants have already raised about $14,000, or 55% of the walk’s goal. The Night Light Walk begins at 6:30 Thursday with a kickoff event at the Empire Theatre.
