Loyalist Township, east of Napanee, is going to be the home of a major manufacturing facility that will play a big role in the growth of electric vehicle production.
Monday, a ground-breaking was held as Umicore Rechargeable Battery Materials Canada announced construction would begin soon in Loyalist Township on the first phase of a plant making materials used in the production of electric vehicle batteries.
The first phase of construction will cost $2.1 billion. Six hundred full-time jobs will be created when phase one is done some time in 2026.
The entire project will cost almost $2.8 billion with the federal government paying $551.3 million and the province $424.6 million.
