The Quinte Business Achievement Awards will be the highlight of Small Business Week next week.
Small Business Week, running this year from October 16-20, highlights the importance of small- and medium-sized companies to the Canadian and local economies.
Stats show that businesses classified as micro or small businesses make up 98% of all employers in Canada.
Ontario has more than 400,000 small businesses, making up 37% of the total number of smal-l and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Canada.
Women lead or co-lead one third of the country’s SMEs while baby boomers own the most businesses at 42%.
Businesses owned by millennials are growing and now stand at 24%.
The Chambers of Commerce from Belleville, Prince Edward and Quinte West are organizing several events as part of Small Business Week with a focus on how they can support local small businesses beyond surviving and toward a path of growth and evolution.
Events begin with Monday’s kick-off at the Trent Port Marina which includes a keynote presentation by Isabelle Hudon, president of the Business Development Bank of Canada.
The week also features workshops, a business trade show, roundtable and a mega mingle.
The Quinte Business Achievement Awards will be handed out Thursday night at the National Air Force Museum of Canada recognizing outstanding businesses, not-for-profit organizations and business leaders.
There is no cost to attend most Small Business Week events but online registration is required.
