Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has reached a deal with its nurses and is apparently holding discussions with CUPE but at least one of the board members who resigned last week has no interest in returning.
Prince Edward County councillors John Hirsch and Kate MacNaughton resigned from the Board of Health saying there was not enough transparency in negotiations with striking workers.
Hirsch tells Quinte News his resignation was a statement to spur negotiations but he won’t be going back.
“But I think it worked. The parties got back together and arrived at a settlement. But I won’t be going back, I don’t feel that the way that board operates is effective and it ends up just being a waste of our time I’m afraid.”
Councillor Kate MacNaughton was unavailable for comment Monday afternoon so it is not known what her intentions are.
Prince Edward County Council must still accept both of their resignations at its next meeting.
Once that happens other council members would be asked to volunteer and replace them on the board.
The Board of Health should have two members from each municipality, the County, Belleville and Quinte West.
