While nurses are back on the job after reaching a deal, Canadian Union of Public Employee (CUPE) workers with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health remained on the picket line Monday morning.
CUPE Local 3314 President Kim Craig says their bargaining committee has sent an updated package of proposals to management that is in line with the deal accepted by nurses.
There is word that the union and employer were to return to the bargaining table today.
Picket lines will remain in place, says Craig, until “reasonable, necessary, and affordable proposals are accepted.”
About 70 public health inspectors, dental assistants and hygienists, dieticians, health promoters and other workers have been on strike since September 22.
Approximately 50 nurses, members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association were on strike for six weeks but voted in favour of a new offer on Saturday.
Details haven’t been released.
The Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Board is expected to ratify the deal at its meeting on Wednesday.
Meanwhile Public Health reports that, while the return of nursing staff will allow gradual resumption of many HPEPH services, several services will not resume fully until an agreement is reached with CUPE members.
The health unit’s service disruption notice will be updated as services gradually resume.
