Two of yesterday’s games in the Eastern Ontario Super League involved local teams.
The Madawaska Valley Wolves slipped past the Centre Hastings Ice Miners 5-4 in overtime.
Mikhail Sabarov, Kevin Domingue, Kyle Powell, and Nick Ferguson scored for the Ice Miners.
The MV Wolves got off to an explosive four-point first frame to start the match, with the Ice Miners only managing one goal in the first frame to get on the board, before coming back with three more in the second to tie the game. Neither team managed to score in the third period, taking the game to overtime where the MV Wolves found the back of the net first after nearly 10 minutes of overtime play.
The Ice Miners will face the Gananoque Islanders next, on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Deseronto Bulldogs thumped the Tweed Oil Kings 9-5.
Joey Mayer, Shawn Mackie, Jordon Cannons, Noah Brant, Jonny Hill, Eric Holland, and Mitchell Merry scored for the Bulldogs.
Adrian Wilson, Pat Millington, Andrew Rhynold, Hunter Fargey, and Will Jones all scored for the Oil Kings.
The two teams battled hard in a closely contested first period, ending the frame with two points each. The Bulldogs started to pull away in the second, earning two points while the Oil Kings only earned one. Then in the third period of the game, the Bulldogs scored a whopping five points to the Oil Kings’ two, gaining a commanding lead and taking home the win.
The Oil Kings will face the Frontenac Phantoms tonight, while the Bulldogs’ next game will also be against the Phantoms, coming up on Friday.
