2022 was a busy year for local artists and staff involved with the Quinte Arts Council (QAC).
Council Executive Director Janet Jarrell spoke to Belleville city council Monday outlining some
of the many activities members were involved in last year.
Among the events described were Docs Dinner & Drinks, a celebration of students in Loyalist’s film program, Expressions, which celebrated local artists featuring financial awards, the 8th annual Plein Air Festival, the three-day Belleville Jazz Festival which featured top quality musicians, educational programs in various schools throughout the area, the continuing publication and distribution of the Umbrella Arts Magazine and a weekly app known as What’s On Quinte listing arts and culture events.
Coming up October 13 the QAC will present an Evening for the Arts, an annual celebration of those who’ve made a significant contribution to the local arts and culture scene.
“As an umbrella organization representing all artistic disciplines, we believe the arts belong to everyone, of all ages and stages, race or gender, and our goal is to ensure diverse perspectives are represented and experienced through art,” said Jarrell.
Jarrell told council her organization would be asking for an increase in its funding from the city next year to at least keep up with inflation.
