Belleville police have charged a man after an incidenton Friday involving intimate partner violence.
Just before 4pm, officers responded to an apartment in the city’s east end, regarding a domestic disturbance. Police were told that a man had visited a woman’s home, despite being under conditions not to communicate with her.
On arrival, officers heard shouting inside the apartment. Officers entered, and found the man attempting to hide in a closet. Officers also found the woman, who was suffering from visible injuries. After an investigation, officers determined that the man had assaulted the woman. When officers attempted to place the man under arrest, he actively resisted officers.
The woman was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 40 year old Belleville man was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, four counts of failure to comply with a probation order, and resisting a peace officer.
He was held pending a bail hearing.
