Belleville police responded to 96 calls for service over a period from 5 a.m. on August 8, 2023 to 5 a.m. on August 9, 2023.
911 hang-ups an issue
Belleville police are continuing to deal with an upward trend of 911 hang-up calls.
Of the 96 calls for service over the past 24 hours, 17 were hang-ups to the emergency lines.
If you happen to make an accidental 911 call, please stay on the line to let the operator know you are safe. If you hang up, the dispatcher will attempt to call you back – and assign an officer to investigate further to ensure safety.
To prevent tying up emergency lines with this issue:
- Periodically review the emergency alert settings on your cell phones, and update them when required.
- Store cell phones properly so they aren’t bouncing around, sat on or get buttons pressed accidentally.
