Belleville’s Economic Destination Development Committee is working with a number of partners on some community safety projects.
Director of Economic Development Heather Candler says public safety is important to economic development.
“We’re working with the Downtown Business Improvement Association to extend the Welcoming Streets program over to the Belleville Transit Station. From the city’s side, we’re working with them to put night patrols on in the downtown so it supports the existing businesses and they’re putting foot patrols on during events that are going on and this type of thing.”
Candler reported to the regular meeting of the Economic Destination Development Committee on Thursday.
She also announced two more additions are being made to the Belleville Economic Destination Development team.
A tourism specialist has been hired.
Michelle Lochan starts on Monday.
She comes from the Toronto Caribbean Festival and has held various positions with the Federal Government.
A new Business Growth and Retention Officer is also joining the team in mid-August though they have not been identified.
