The Salvation Army Belleville citadel is preparing to hold an open house for members of the community to learn about their plans to renovate and expand the Bridge Street property.
The open house will take place at 290 Bridge Street West on June 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests will have a chance to speak to Salvation Army members about the project and information about the planned expansion will be revealed.
“We encourage community members to join us and be part of the discussion as we look forward to journeying with them and being an innovative community partner while delivering much needed programs and services,” said Major Curtis Butler.
The $2.2 million construction project is scheduled to commence in mid–June.
The Salvation Army announced plans earlier in May to expand their property at Bridge Street West and North Palmer Road.
The new plans include expanded kitchen and dining facilities, with plans to prepare meals for the poor there and distribute them to where the meals are needed.
The plans to expand the facility met with local opposition after being announced, with local residents citing concerns from vandalism to traffic congestion, and distributed a petition collecting signatures against the expansion.
