Fire dispatching for Quinte West is about to change.
Currently, the City of Belleville handles dispatch services for Quinte West, but at its meeting Wednesday, Quinte West Council will consider a by-law that would see it enter into a Fire Dispatch Services Agreement with the City of St. Catharines.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says Belleville officials told them it is going to cost too much to continue to carry out the duties.
Harrison expects the by-law to pass as St. Catharines was the only response to a tender issued by the City.
“You can dispatch from any part of the world, I guess, now with all the technology we’ve got. So, St. Catharines is a place that’s interested and willing and willing to do everything that we require.”
Mayor Harrison did not say what the cost would be.
Quinte West Council meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
It’s not known what Belleville plans to do with its fire dispatch.
Belleville’s Fire Department has yet to respond to a Quinte News request for comment.
