Quinte area residents are being encouraged to keep their coronavirus vaccinations up-to-date.
Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Gemmell told a meeting of the Hastings Prince Edward Board of Health on Wednesday that “there is a good foundation of protection by immunization now but it does fade over time.”
“But most importantly for the the people who are most high risk, which is the elderly and people with medical, chronic medical conditions. I have not heard for sure but I can’t imagine that we wouldn’t be having another campaign in the autumn to provide protection during respiratory seasons.”
Dr. Gemmell tells Quinte News he encourages people to come forward and get their vaccine.
He notes that the prevalence of the coronavirus has lessened, but people need to be aware and keep vaccinated, since it can come back.
