The Quinte Home and Lifestyle Show celebrates its 50th edition this weekend at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Presented by the Quinte Homebuilders Association, the Quinte Home and Lifestyle Show is dubbed one of the largest and most professional home shows between Durham Region and Ottawa.
The event, running April 14-16, features dozens of exhibitors and local experts on building, renovating, landscaping, DIY, design and more.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the show will feature a special exhibit highlighting the history of the show.
Visitors can walk down memory lane and see how the show has evolved.
The event started 50 years ago as a small group of builders showcasing their work to residents and visitors of the Quinte Region from its original home at the Quinte Mall, eventually moving to the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
This year, presenters on the Team Tim McKinney Stage include HGTV Canada’s Samantha Pynn, host of CJBQ’s Take it Outside, Carson Arthur and local chef Matt DeMille.
Speaking with the Mix Morning Crew on Mix 97 Monday morning, Pynn said kitchens and bathrooms are the rooms she receives the most questions about.
When it comes to colour, there has been a resurgence in beiges and whites but colours like green and blue are also making a return.
“You know, it’s interesting with trends because they come and go and you really gotta go with what speaks to you. So I always say flip through magazines, head onto Pinterest or Instagram and look at what speaks to you. Look at photos with abandon, gather them up and then you’ll see recurring things. Because we’re generally drawn to what we love. And so, if you’re seeing a lot of pale pinks and maybe greens then go with that. It doesn’t matter what your family says, your friends or, you know, your neighbour who’s got a flair for design. You’ve gotta go for what you love.”
I mean the kitchen is completely understandable but the bathroom is a tiny space and, even though it’s tiny it costs almost as much money and it’s just as much stress. And I always say do not swing a hammer or do not move a thing until you have a plan. A plan, you’ve got everything in place, you know where you’re going. And then, and then to be flexible.”
Celebrity presentations and demonstrations are included with the cost of admission.
