About 300 people attended Hospice Quinte’s Eastern Ontario Caregiver Expo.
The Saturday event brought together local health care organizations, businesses and social services , products and resources available to local caregivers.
Over the past year, Hospice Quinte made good use of $107,900 in funding granted by the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Resilient Communities Fund by updating and revitalizing the organization’s education, outreach, and special events activities. This project helped foster critical hospice palliative care initiatives in Quinte and improved collaborations with numerous partner agencies.
Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith said funding events like Expo Hospice Quinte is improving access and ensuring awareness of resources and community connections that will make a difference for Bay of Quinte families.
“Well-supported caregivers allow people living with palliative conditions to have the best possible quality of life,” said Todd Smith, MPP for Bay of Quinte. “With Resilient Communities funding allocated for events like the Eastern Ontario Caregiver Expo, Hospice Quinte is improving access and ensuring better awareness of resources and community connections that will make a difference for Bay of Quinte families at this critical time.”
“We are extremely pleased with the positive outcomes and public praise of our inaugural Eastern Ontario Caregiver Expo,” says Jennifer May-Anderson, Hospice Quinte’s Executive Director. “Thanks to support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) this past year, Hospice Quinte was able to deliver this important outreach activity and further revitalize a variety of other community education and fundraising programs previously impeded by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
May-Anderson added, “On behalf of Hospice Quinte, I want to thank OTF as well as all of our event sponsors, vendors and volunteers who contributed to making our first Eastern Ontario Caregiver Expo a resounding success. The information, guidance and support local caregivers received by attending this event clearly demonstrates a need in our community – a need that Hospice Quinte is proud to address into the future.”
Plans for next year’s Eastern Ontario Caregiver Expo are already underway with the event slated for March 2024.
